Title: [IMail Forum] Connecting to a MySQL Database
Reboot your IMAIL computer.

Create a new DSN with the MyODBC driver from our site (if you already have it installed, then great). Use a simple DSN without spaces / dashes / special characters such as "IMAILDB". Put in the host, the userid, the password, and the database name. Test it.

Put a fresh copy of the ODBCUSER.DLL file from our download package (8.14+) into your IMAIL directory and rename it to myodbcuser.dll or something SIMPLE without special characters. There are a couple reasons for this. A fresh copy with a different name shouldn't interfere with any other versions in memory. In the IMAIL administrator specify the FULL PATH to the myodbcuser.dll file (example: c:\imail\myodbcuser.dll), put in the DSN of IMAILDB (or whatever you created) and specify the table or keep default. Save the change, try and add a user. In a good, not even perfect, world that should work.

AJ,

Well, as you know we are having issues and we have been working on norrowing things down.  When we create the DSN connection and do the test, everything works properly and the mysql log shows the connection.  However, when we use that DSN within IMail with the library file from your website, it does not show that IMail even connects to mysql to create the table or anything.  Therefore IMail is not even talking to mysql.

I have to be missing something, I have 2 mysql gurus here and we are all at a lose to what is going on.

Thanks,
Grant

Subject: [IMail Forum] Connecting to a MySQL Database

I just wanted to clarify some information on the list based on emails that I
have been receiving.

The digiposs.com MySql ODBCUSER.DLL is simply the standard IPSWITCH one
modified to work with MySql's usage of quotes and backslashes. We have
noticed that the latest version of MyODBC does not work properly with IMail
and our ODBCUSER.DLL, so we have posted an archived copy of MyODBC on our
site for the time being that works with IMAIL 8.15 HF1 and our current
ODBCUSER.DLL.

Users should keep in mind that mysql needs to allocate appropriate rights to
the user connecting both for the userid and the connection host. It may also
be necessary to specify the username and password on the DSN line in IMAIL
if your userid and password are not saved in the ODBC DSN configuration. You
can get details on that here:

http://www.ipswitch.com/support/IMail/guide/imailug8.1/Chapter%202%20config9.html#27806

We have used our ODBCUSER.DLL file on multiple types of servers using IMail
versions from 7.0 - 8.15 HF1 without issue. Hundreds of other entities have
also downloaded and used our ODBCUSER.DLL to successfully connect IMail and
MySql both on local MySQL databases running on Windows and external servers
running MySql on linux.
