The point of this all is that we would like for our customers to be able
to use the Ipswitch Collaboration Suite put out by the makers of Imail
without interfering with the users who are content to use the Linux
Webmail packages or without porting the entire mail server to Windows.

As Sandy suggested, to duplicate all the accounts and the traffic seems very wasteful, and an admin complexity of dubious worth.

I suggest that each user decide on his type mail service. Then create that account only on that server. either/or, not both.

Is this sort of configuration possible, with the same domain name set up
on two different mail servers?

yes. I'm working with a large Imail user in CA who will have one domain spread across any number of Imail boxes. imgate/postfix will route the mail to the correct mailbox.

If so, how feasible/practical is it to use this type of setup?

it's very easy to do.

each mail server periodically exports its user list to the postfix box. the postfix box then uses the consolidated user list to

1. reject msgs to unknown recipients

2. route a msg to the recipient's mail server.
