Title: Second Host
What other parts?  Web?  FTP?  Windows user accounts?  We do those with the same set of scripts we run.

We run all of ours from a SQL Server database, so yes, the scripts run with windows admin privileges.  You can do it without SQL, but the script would still need appropriate rights to run.  You could either do that by shelling to another process and telling it to run under another account, or granting the user those rights.  The former is obviously more desirable.

That makes sense about the DNS, but there are other hosting parts to the equation.

If I wrote the script like you suggest would his admin account have to have System Admin privileges?

Basically what I am tying to do is have a completely new and separate host on the same server.  Maybe the way to word it is can I create a second local host?

By "Only Domains" do you mean only domains in Imail?

IMail doesn't really care whether its a domain or subdomain, it cares about hosts... which can be either.

If you add a host that is example.com, then email in it would be [EMAIL PROTECTED].  If you add a host that is subdomain.example.com, then the email in it would be [EMAIL PROTECTED].

So, if I understand correctly, you want to create a web-based script that would allow him to create new hosts (and admin IDs for them) in IMail as long as the host is a subdomain under his main domain.  If it were me, I would want the script to create the DNS subdomain at the same time, so when he created it there would be no need for manual intervention by me.

Only Domains.  I will still manage DNS.

If he adds it as a subdomain, what would be the email address for the subdomain?

Or as a virtual host?

Oh, sorry...didn't read your post closely enough.  I'm afraid only the system admin can add hosts through WebMail.

Are you just wanting to add hosts to DNS, or IMail, or both.  If you want to do IMail and have a web server available on the mail server, then you can use the command line utilities with some scripting to allow him to add email hosts, but only as subdomains under his main domain.  We have an in-house system that allows customer to manage DNS in this way, but could easily extend it to IMail as well.

I understand that.

I want my customer to be able to create virtual hosts as sub hosts to their domain.  It appears that only the system admin can add hosts.  I do not and will not give a customer system admin privileges.

That's exactly what the host administrator permission is for.  Just create the second domain, add the user, give him host admin rights, and he can manage the domain through the WebMail interface.

Is there anyway to setup a second host on an IMail server that can have it's own permissions?

I have a customer that would like to have the ability to create virtual hosts through the web interface.  I do not want to give him permissions to the entire server.  I am hoping that I can setup a second host and give him full admin privileges to that host only.
