So we went with IMGate, and later just postfix (not my decision, the uppers didn't like IMGate's restrictive policies
The IMGate policies aren't "restrictive" in a pejorative sense, or IMGate wouldn't have been so successful for the last 5 years.
A few IMGate MXs do have to deal with unusually large numbers of legit but screwed up MTAs and DNSs (there is still an amazing amount of SMTP and DNS incompetence), so it's simpler to relax/remove a couple filters to let those screwed up legits through, but the vast majority of IMGate policies work for nearly everybody.
