Since T files are just temporary Q files, I assumed
he meant there were no matching files...so the short messages are most
likely from spam/viruses.

He said there weren't any "Q" files... Didn't say
it was only "D" files but yes you are correct there would "T" files left over
from a broken connection

Wouldn't there be a matching T*.SMD file in that
case?

What looks like a partial "D" file could be the
result of a borken connection. Are you Winsock errors in your log

I wouldn't think so. 99% sure they are
the result of a broken spam/virus engine.

Thanks for the reply and apologies for the
HiJack, I shouldn't have hit reply!
I was wondering if it could be the returned
mail as I understand that these are sometimes truncated, but there's nothing
in the SMD file to suggest it's a returned mail. Would there
be?

It's best not to hikack someone else's thread
when posting to the forum. Confuses readers and makes finding it in
the archives harder.
Most likely the cause it a broken spam or
virus engine. The D files are not changed.

Hi,
I have a query regarding SMD files in the
IMail spool directory.
I'm aware that smd files starting with D but
do not have corresponding Q files have been double bounced. However I
would expect these files to have all of the original data in them, but not
all of them do. So for instance, I'm getting "Hi name," in the D
file and nothing else when the mail that should have been sent had a
complete message.
Does anybody know what the likely cause of
this is?
Thanks.

IPlus Info
Browser will do it. http://www.martekware.com/ipb/.
It also comes with many other utilities and reports and has the
ability to decrypt IMail passwords.

I'm not sure which method
you're referring to. A simple VBS script that reads the registry,
iterating through the domain and user keys will do what you want if you
use the registry. If you use ODBC, then you can query the
database.

That's the
method I use and always have been using. I was looking for something
that will spit out the names of anyone with admin rights. Thanks for the
reply.

If you're
running with the registry, then you can write a script to iterate
through the IMail domains and users in the registry and use binary
operations on the user flags to determine whether they are an
admin. If you're running on an ODBC database, you can do the
binary math on the appropriate user flags field.
If you look in
Ipswitch's knowledge base there's an article on the user
flags.

[IMail Forum] Find Admins
Hello,
I'm looking for
a quick and painless way to find all the users on my IMail box with
Admin Privileges. I have a way to do it that's not too bad but I would
like to know if anyone else out there is doing this and what methods
they're using. IMail has a utility called "fndadm.exe" but that only
seems to work for older versions of IMail Server (I'm running 8.14
HF1).
