To determine whether messages have been seen before, mail clients keep
track  of unique dyads (UIDL + server hostname), triads (UIDL + server
hostname  +  username), or more. The system for determining uniqueness
varies  by  MUA.  The  UIDL  will be recalculated if you alter the MBX
files, but it looks like you did the right thing there. Did the server
name, user login, or server IP change for some reason?
