I just got same problem...was the Norton AV. The Email Scan option just
screw up TB.
Deactivate it.

Subject: [IMail Forum] Mosilla Thunderbird Password Rejection
I've just started playing with Mosilla Thunderbird after a
customer called
with a problem. It seems I'm having the same trouble. When checking for
mail, IMail refuses the password with the message:
"Sending of password did not succeed. Mail Server dfn.com responded:"
I'm using POP3 and the IMail database. OE works fine on the same PC with
the same test account and settings. Several customers using
Netscape have no
trouble. I seem to be overlooking something easy, but It eludes me.
Anybody care to suggest what I may be missing?
