Not that I want to start a big pollitical debate but......

You will not see any sympathy from me. Regardless of why the spammer was
truly killed (and I agree with you Sandy - it was highly unlikley to be an
anti-spammer activist) - it may possibly deter other Russian spammers now
that they think there is a consequence. As the article said, the fellow
spammed because he could - there was no consequence.

I  agree,  and  it's also preposterous and offensive to assume that he
was  killed  by  anti-spam activists; I doubt the police think so. Far
more  likely is an mob-related hit, coming out of a failed partnership
or  what-have-you,  and  the  perp  may  (purposely)  never be caught,
leaving  him free to hammer-murder people who haven't done anything we
find deserving. Read some recent articles on doing business in Russia.
It's not only the "bad guys" getting hit.
