Dear Mark,

I achieved a partial victory: I changed the name
of the entry in /etc/pam.d from imapd to imap
(to match the name of the service in /etc/services),
and that got imap working. Making a parallel
change for the pop3 server did not help. For some
reason that service is still rejecting my password.

Rich
