As you have discovered, that is not the function of the phile driver.
Its function is to export raw files (as in using IMAP for downloading),
not messages.
There is no driver that does exactly what you want, but the mh driver (for
files in UNIX-style LF-newline) or mx driver (for files in Internet-style
CRLF-newline) probably comes the closest.
