Anybody familiar with the circumstances around such an error?

The "Bogus IDLE Continuation" error generally indicates a bug in the client.

The client issued an IDLE command (RFC 2177) to put the session into idle mode. Once in idle mode, the only thing that the client can send is "DONE" followed by a CRLF. The error message indicates that, from the server's point of view, the client sent something else. That is a syntax error in the IMAP protocol.

If possible, try to capture a protocol transcript of a session where this happens (e.g., with a packet sniffer), and I'll take a look and verify this is what's happening.
