(sorry, I could not think of a better subject line)
I have upgraded our production server from imap2004 to imap2006 with a
view to comparing Mix vs MBX "on a real system", prior to moving
everybody to a new system (with a more recent O/S version).
I swapped out the old imapd and dmail, but so far only converted a couple
of mailboxes. I stopped xinetd, killed all extant imapd processes,
installed the new one and restarted xinetd. Everything seemed OK for me.
However, some users using Thunderbird report funny things, e.g.
"When I go to a folder I have not yet looked at since imapd was changed,
it always reports double the number of messages. If I go to any other
folder and come back to this first one, the number of messages comes back
to normal."
Is there anything different in IMAP between the 2004 and 2006 versions
that could account for this behaviour, in terms of the client's locally
stored status (xxx.msf) getting confused ?
I had also seen some user folders which worked OK under 2004, being slow
or failing under 2006. When examined with Pine linked against 2006
c-client, Pine may report "Invalid UIC in message nnn, rebuilding".
Or my "mbxfix" script may find errors. Is the new code more sensitive to
errors in the MBX file ?
