Good morning, folks.

I've seen discussion in earlier threads on this list indicating that there is some performance penalty for UIDPLUS support in unix-style mailboxes. However, I'm seeing significantly more than "some" penalty in my limited testing.

When moving messages to mailboxes of moderate-to-large size (the worst offender is ~940MB w/ ~3600 messages), the operation can take anywhere from 1 to 2 minutes using imap-2006c1, where imap-2004g on the same server completes in imperceptible time.

   My configuration is:
      Server: Solaris 9, imap-2004g vs imap-2006c1, both compiled with
              "make gso SSLDIR=/usr/local SSLTYPE=unix \
               EXTRALDFLAGS=-R/usr/local/lib"

      Client: Pine 4.64 compiled with default c-client.

   MIX-format mailboxes perform much better, as I'm sure is expected.

So.. is there anything I can do to lessen the pain here short of converting to another mailbox format? Can I disable UIDPLUS for certain mailboxes, or perhaps for the unix format globally? Is there a performance gain to be had by re-compiling pine with the 2006c1 c-client? If so, should I expect similar slowness from other imap clients when I deploy this server version?

   Thanks for any input.
