FYI

We've had the odd MIX format failure - once from a system crash, where the system went down leaving the data and index files unsynchronized, and a few times for no discernable reason. For some I was able to recover a good index from backup.

I started to write a MIX repair tool last year, and recently finished it.
Well, not "finished" exactly - somtimes it generates illegal folders.
Other times it works OK. It rebuilds index headers in data files by searching for them by regexp (so it can repair a folder with a chunk missing), and then re-writes the index file and cleans up the status file.

It's "mixfix" at http://andrew.triumf.ca/mbx (in Perl)

Mark has also released a repair tool, which rebuilds an index file
from the data files. But it won't AFAIK at present fix corrupted
data files.

If anyone cares to beat on mixfix and find the bug(s), that would be great. Meanwhile, it may help in some cases, though if the only problem is a missing or broken index file mixrbld is much faster.
