All, Configuration: Debian 9.13 uw-imapd 8:2007e~dfsg-3.1 exim4-daemon-heavy 4.89-2+deb9u7
Combined (and redacted) log file excerpts: Sep 15 09:19:35 localhost ipop3d[4784]: Login ... nmsgs=750/750 Sep 15 09:24:45 1kIBso-0001HH-Aj => ... R=local_user T=mail_spool Sep 15 09:25:11 localhost ipop3d[4784]: Update ... nmsgs=744 ndele=6 nseen=23 One of my users failed to receive two messages yesterday. By filtering log files to a reasonable size, editing the exim log to use the same date format, and combining and sorting them, I could observe that in both cases, the message not received was queued by exim between an ipop3d login message and the corresponding ipop3d Update message. In both cases, the Update messages had non-zero ndele. This smells strongly of overlapping read-modify-write. It seems easily possible that there is a configuration error, but c-client.cf has only one line, unrelated to locking. And that will go away shortly. I would love to have someone point out my stupid mistake. Or suggest a place to start looking. Thanks.
