One last time, I would like to thank everyone on the list who helped me find
answers over the years.

Last evening I made a pleasantly uneventful conversion from UW-IMAP to
Dovecot.

I had set up a virtual machine running Debian 9 (like the server at the
moment) and switched back and forth between UW-IMAP and Dovecot with
aptitude until it was seamless from a test client (claws). I set up a local
file repo with the UW-IMAP and other packages required -- "deb [trusted=yes]
file:///var/local/deb-repo/ ./" so that could work.

Conversion of the server had these steps (in summary):

1) Stop openbsd-inetd, move files down into ~/mail, and modify /etc/c-client
to match. restart openbsd-inetd. (2 days ago)

2) Install Dovecot, and apply the dovecot config file changes developed on
the VM, and point dovecot at the existing certificate used by the mail
server. Restart Dovecot and openbsd-inetd.

3) This morning, turn off the debug logging on dovecot.
