I want to monitor mail from a functionally read-only client as I just
want to create a fancy biff.
It's been pointed out EXAMINE does not necessarily work for this as
untagged EXPUNGE/FETCH/EXISTS
responses are not forthcoming from all servers in read-only mode. In
searching through the archives for
discussions of monitoring and coming across the commandments it looks
like the IDLE capability might do the job.
Does IDLE function with read-only (EXAMINE) with respect to getting
notification of mailbox changes? Would that
be the recommended way to go about this? Any suggestions for
monitoring mail with servers lacking IDLE
capability or are they few and far between?
