I have. I've also seen FETCH be that slow (due to lack of bandwidth).

What's intolerable? In a different message I mentioned a GUI MUA on a
dialup as an example. I want program exit to be snappy enough that the
user can close the MUA window and the program actually will have exited by
the time the user clicks on "disconnect modem".
