You should look more carefully at those patches... They are from 1998 for Imap 4.6 !!!
That said, it still can be done... Note however that all I know is up to 2001a version. Have not tried newer ones. And you know this is totally UNSUPPORTED and NOT RECOMMENDED... For Hiding dot files, dummy.c is the one to be patched, and simply look for the proper location and manually apply the changes... For Home directory definitions, env_unix.c. Same as before...
