One of these two strategies is right. The other is arguably wrong, but perhaps more practical in today's internet.

1. Convert a newline and all following whitespace into a single ASCII 32.
2. Remove a newline and one following whitespace character.

or quotation marks?
Shouldn't be touched. Send them in literals. Instead of sending "SUBJECT in ENVELOPE" you send {34}
SUBJECT containing '"' in ENVELOPE.
