How are you ..

I have excatly the same issue as what you are having.. I am still having
that issue :)

UW-IMAP only suports SSL and TLS security therefore does not allow plain
login's.
There is a way to change this and has been explained on the list probally
many times and again I asked a few weeks agao, however it invloves
recompiling, and because I use debian and only get .deb I cant be bothered
recopmpoiling so have stuck with apt-get install uw-imapd uw-imapdssl

Outlag express uses SSL encryption on port 993, you will need to reconfigure
the server to listern out on port 993.
Most linux apps support SSL, and Full Outlag does as well, however from my
experences at work, not as good as as outlag express.

You mentioned that you wanted to run Horde - I tried squirrel mail - to no
avail in UW-IMAP, as the issue with plain logins's.... Imapnotify Pass on
if it will SSL - never used it

If there is a developer listerning to this list here is a sugestion :))

Could you look at creating a "localhostip.conf" for uw-imap so that if it
detects the local IP is connecting it will allow a plain login - or allow
plain logins from the IP that resides in the localhostip.conf - for example,
if your horde/squirrelmail or what have you is on another machine - and you
want to risk the network being sniffed, then its up to you - and it does
allow plain logins.

Hope this helps :)
