I have done this quite successfully with  fetchmail.   In particular
do pay attention to '--mda'  option, and supply destination address
explicitely.  (Running there "sendmail -t" is one of the more lethal
mistakes that people seem to do...)

Possibly run that Bayesian filter of yours as fetchmail mda.
