Pegasus Mail's TCP logging will help here: if you're using v4.12a, go into
Tools|Internet options and check "Create Internet session logs", then
produce the error. A complete transcript of the session will be stored in
TCPxxxx.WPM in your home mailbox directory.
Session logs are incredibly useful for working out what the server and
the client are actually saying to each other.
Note that Pegasus Mail's IMAP support is... well, I guess the kindest
thing I can say about it is that it was safe, reliable, stodgy code in 1997,
and it hasn't changed much since then. I'm in the process of almost
totally rewriting it to make it use the protocol more intelligently and
efficiently.
But in the meantime, the session logging should allow you to see what's
going on under the bonnet.
Cheers!
