Section 6.4.3 needs to indicate, both in the text and in the example, that the server needs to send an updated RECENT value if any RECENT messages were expunged. Otherwise, the client has no way of knowing if its current recent count is correct unless it has previously fetched the flags of all messages and decremented the recent count when a recent message was expunged.
At least one server implementation fails to do this, and it isn't the server's fault because the specification failed to point it out.
