Yes I'm aware that's it's kind of stupid but it is used as "hack" to make use of UID's within the SquirrelMail code at that moment (a year ago). The query is only used on imap servers without the SORT extension. I'm working on a new imap backend for SquirrelMail, rewritten from scratch which should be 100% rfc3501 compliant (except STARTTLS because that isn't possible in PHP) and as efficient as possible in the issued requests. You won't see UID SEARCH UID 1:* again :) Marc.
