Hi, I would like to construct my own imap server and I think I'm going use the Cyrus server. But I have some questions and their responses would help me to construct it:
- I would like to know the name of the mechanism that refresh automically the folder seen when a message arrives into it? It is great! Could it work for all the folders of any imap servers and not only for the seen one? - is there any mechanism which allows to make a search directly onto the imap server without needed to download messages? (Is there any mail client supporting this by now?) If yes, is it using imap url and would it allow to parse it and directly extract the message? [Just imagining... cos' "imap urls" are more theorical than practical, and that's a shame, I think] . - what are the essentials security considerations? But first I got to turn onto a redhat server and thus learning linux; I've bought a book. Then, I would like to develop an imap information platform and not just only a mail server with: - bulletin boards (mostly press newsletters and mailing lists); - shared folders (with acl, and the problem of their management with a non supporting mail client and the remedy of telnet!); - Usenet and others newsgroups integrated in the single tree! (something I've never seen till now), and maybe an imap-nntp gateway that would allow to respond to a nntp message with an imap one; - an intensive use of ldap with directories (I'm thinking to yellow pages) and english, french, german, etc... dictionaries with serious definitions and translations; - acap is not for me now; it seems very interesting but I had never been able to find an acap test server; maybe rfc822 format extensions specially made for imap servers could allow a dynamic use of calendars, contacts? - http-imap gateway and deflexion so that we could look at a webpage into a rfc822 format - mp3.imap, divx.imap and other imap streamable data directly readable from the server. Any remarks, critics, suggestions, tips and good information are welcomed. Thank in advance. -- Karim-Antoine -- ----------------------------------------------------------------- For information about this mailing list, and its archives, see: http://www.washington.edu/imap/imap-list.html -----------------------------------------------------------------
