I have a problem with clients not displaying the subject line correctly if it has an 8 bit format. In Outlook the message is just ignored and not displayed.
I have tried using modified UTF-7 and CHAR8. This allows the messages to appear but the subject line just gets displayed as the encoded version rather than the correct string.
What is the correct encoding I should apply when supplying the envelope if the subject line contains 8 bit data and the charset is unknown?
I'm assuming that I cant use ISO because I don't know the correct CHARSET.
Cyrus assumes US-ASCII and replaces all 8bit characters with 'x'. I think that's the most sensible thing to do. Mail software that generates 8bit headers is broken.
