Hi,
I currently use a pop server. I would like to switch
to using IMAP (for obvious reasons). So the setup I
have in mind is procmail+fetchmail+IMAP. I'll fetch
the mail from pop server to my machine and then run
IMAP server on the BSD machine to access my email.
I'm using courier IMAP, btw.
fetchmail+procmail seems to be fine. I updated
imapd.rc file to use ~/.Msgs instead of ~/Maildir. I
also updated .procmailrc to send messages to this
folder. I see the following structure have been
created in the ~/.Msgs:
new cur tmp .Trash Inbox .Folder1 .Folder2
Inobx, .Folder1, .Folder2 were defined in .procmailrc
(default rule :0:\nInbox). .Folder? are foldes and
their structure is similar
new cur tmp
I see some-numeric-ID.domain files in "new" folder of
these folder.
I can read the individual messages using emacs or vi
in Inbox. How do I configure a client to see all
these messages and folders? I tried configuring
Outlook as follows:
- IMAP
- imap-server/smtp-server
- user-id
It is able to connect with the server and in the Inbox
it says no messages.
I tried pine on the same machine as the server. I am
using pine version 4.58 on BSD. I configured pine's
inbox-path as {server.domain.com/notls}INBOX
Pine also says 0 messages in the INBOX. However, if I
configure pine's inbox-path as {}$HOME/.Msgs/msg.XXX
or {}$HOME/.Msgs/Inbox
Am I missing something very basic here (I'm hoping the
fist step of sending mail to this list is correct!)?
ANy help/pointer is appreciated.
thanks,
manish
