Hm indeed. In what situations is it important that the search returns  
a list of results?

I mean, how often do you, as a user, go to IMDb and do a search, and  
get wrongfully redirected?

I'd say that changing the behavior to always redirect would be fine,  
but of course, you have much more experience on this subject. :-)
