Correct.

Unfortunately I'm still convinced it's a task beyond my abilities
as a coder. :-)
Oh, and it seems that the moviedb tool just applies the patches
and then rebuilds the whole data files.

You're right, I've never thought about it. :-)
I'll look at a generic solution at the act of dropping and (re)creating
the tables (using SQLObject, to be db-independent).
