Wonderful! The first attempt is in the SVN (not exactly tested, but should work). The function is named 'fullSizeCoverURL', in the 'helpers' module. It can take a Movie, Person or Character instance (or a simple string) as input. It returns the link to the full-size version of the cover/headshot, or None otherwise.
