have you gone to two disks yet. Promise 2000 + ata133 disk?

I recommend it for my installs because the "IMGate advanced" scripts are 
scanning the maillog pretty hard and frequently, but without processing 
maillog, it's not a huge gain, ime, to go to two disks.

I'm still amazed at the gain from PCRE, so have you implemented that?

Is disk i/o really the bottleneck?

iostat -c 40 in mid-morning or afternoon show a lot of traffic every second?

iostat showed me that syslogd actually doesn't write out a line at time, 
but buffers quite heavily and dumps in chunks.
