>My IMGate is rejecting mail from Merrill Lynch.
blame everything on IMGate, will ya?? :)) >The message in the postfix log is: >reject: RCPT from telutil12a-v.ml.com[199.43.34.196]: 450 ><[EMAIL PROTECTED]>: Sender address rejected: >Domain not found. with sender.domains like that, even if they put them in DNS, the system people oughta be shot. They dreamed it up in some nerd systems phantasy and then forgot to put their silliness in DNS. >I have pf setup to reject_unknown_sender_domain perfectly valid and effective filter. > so I know why but am I >correct in reading that the above return addresss in in the mlam.com domain? mlamgpcc01web15 is a sub-domain of mlam.com is sub-domain of .com, is a sub-domain of . (root) >If so then it is a problem at Merrill Lynch correct. yes, they need to put an A and/or MX record for it mlamgpcc01web15.mlam.com. A ip.ad.re.ss mlamgpcc01web15.mlam.com. MX hostname.some.where. >mlam.com is registered to someone in Hong Kong and not Merrill Lynch >although the host name and IP address 199.43.34.196 is the MX for Merrill >Lynch. ah, ok. Maybe somebody is just spoofing the @sender.address, but the key is the PTR in the ml.com domain, which is much harder to spoof, and that shows this silliness really did come from a ML ip. If you want to receive this mail, whitelist ml.com or 199.43.34.196 in mta_clients_bw.com which should be in your restrictions before reject_unknown_sender. btw, SAV would also fail since SAV could not find a A or MX for that @sender.domain to ask verification of sender FAinfoMaterials.ml.com.
