>I just dl'd ISC Bind 9.2 for NT.

Since you run Linux, why would you want to run BIND on Win32? That's
usually for people who don't have *nix for DNS.

b/c I'm the only *nix geek in house, and my boss wants me to go NT where I
can.
I also (maybe mistakenely thought if this box which will do Internet mail
and proxy, would also add value of it cached internet DNS)

>b/c we couldn't mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]
>instead we could only mail [EMAIL PROTECTED]

>I dont want end users mailing to the hosts FQDN, just the domain name.

this is an IMail FAQ and best addressed on the Imail list. Actually, see
the Imail list archives and knowledge base.

So it is RTFM, Thanks, if you had a nickel for every time you told me that.
I usually just go for it, and read the directions when i get my butt kicked.

>Also if ANYONE has a smattering of DNS files for NT

There's no such thing a "DNS files for NT". It's just DNS data, no OS
dependency. on BIND8NT.MEIway.com download page, there are DNS server
config and zone files examples.

And I did find them via google, and used them, especially your options
sample.
BUT Event viewer after BIND barfed, told me it couldnt find this faile, that
file, etc
So I went and made damn sure that it said
options {
directory "c:\winnt|system32\dns\tc"};
and then named the files in named.conf
and made sure they were there. They were could it be a security to read
issue???

>Was up past midnight last night, googling "bind" + "nt" + "tutorial"

you apparently are wrong footed, you should be, at this point, building a
new mailbox server on W2K, not NT.

I concur, my boss is scared of 2K and wants me on NT, if you can help me
justify 2K, that is what I'll put it on.
I prefer 2K's diagnostics and services applets, etc

>May as well have been running it on Linux for what came back

that
>they dont feel are a risk to share with me, I sure would love you for it.

For DNS, independent of the OS, get the DNS & BIND book, O'Reilly, 4th
edition.

I bad need to do that

>Thanks to ALL, (I dont think this is RTFM)

but it is :))

Sorry thats evident.
Would you have any sample zone files I can diff against the ones I've made
that are barfing my BIND install, please???

Read the IMail u/g .pdf cover to cover, see the Imail mailing list
archives, and ipswitch knowledge base.
Will do, also read the ISC Bind admin PDF last night which is where I made
my sample zone files from.
I would install Bind, make an empty named.conf, it worked.
THEN I would make one forward and one reverse zone, and everything went to
hell

THANKS & Happy new Year
