look in the registry under ISC BIND to make sure that the default location
for named.conf is really that.

This is first I'm hearing that the reg must be consulted, but thats a
cakewalk, will do

bind will fail to start if it can find named.conf.  once you get that found
and loaded, this bind should start logging (have to uncomment the logging
statement in named.conf) and you debug the errors in named.run until there
are none.

bind9 will fail to start if there are major errors named.conf, like missing
zone file.

The zone files in my sample config are valid, compare what you have against
them, or start with them and modify to fit your zone data.

take any other BIND or IMail issues to the appropriate mailing list.
