No different from anybody else not running IMGate:  some are using 
commercial hardware firewalls, and some are using *nix routers configured 
as firewall, some are using both.

Note that IMGate as an "SMTP proxy that enforces access policies" is 
actually part of your "firewall", which includes all your defensive 
practices for all protocols.

On IMGate itself, for host security, people should harden *nix in the usual 
ways and run a packet filter like ipfilter, ipfw, netfilter.
