A lot of the open relays I have chased down in the last few months have turned out to be DSL customers. Many people think they are admins because they can install the OS, and have no clue about security.
I have seen far too many nightmares in offices where I was called into to fix problems. Like the one that was using Win 95 with PCAnywhere as a server for remote access to the network. They kept getting SMTP relay programs installed on the system. Well if you have no password on PCA you are granting license to anyone on the Internet to hack your systems. I expect by now companies have closed relays AND server-level anti-spam in-house or farmed out. Were corps ever a big part of the problem??? Len
