Thanks Len and Eric for your help. Your right, Len- it did start up eventually. I switched mail delivery to Postfix around 5:30pm, and the postfix emails were finally accepted at 9:15pm. My big problem was that my Postfix hostname didn't match my MX record- who'd have thought the sending server would do an SAV on my SAV request?! :-)
