There is no requirement to run SMTP Auth against sasldb, it can also be run
against the passwd/shadow database using saslauthd, which how I do my
authentication.

For imgate to do SMTP AUTH you need to compile SASL in with postfix
Then you need to export usernames AND passwords to the sasldb so they can
authenticate against imgate.
Export needs to be kinda frequent so password changes / new accounts reflect
pretty soon.
