Thanks for the help. I tried what you said and the problem is in fact
with the mail server.
[EDIT]I my case (debian 5 + cyrus 2.2) the file with the seen flags
(/var/lib/cyrus/user/*/***.seen) was corrupt. I backed up and deleted the file,
then reconstructed the index (cyrreconstruct user.***), and problem solved.

Have a look at the message using another mail client, like
Thunderbird. That will tell you if IMP is not interpreting the seen
flag, or not setting it.
Also, while there, see if Thunderbird can do it, which will tell you
if it's an IMP problem or a server problem.
