If you want to automatically reapply any patches for upcoming versions
in a production environment, you best go for a distribution packaged
version (deb or rpm).

B1 Systems can/does maintain such packages, though it has some costs of
course. You would still need to verify if your local patch still does
what it should do with new versions.
