You probably do, but not in /tmp/imp_imap.log. Check if your system is using a private "tmp" where these files end up. Otherwise, check the permissions. Some systems will not allow processes to create new files in /tmp so you need to create them beforehand and set the permissions manually so that whatever user your PHP is running as can log the information in them.
