Reminder: Don't forget to include talk-us@ and imports@ before importing.

Could you put some sample data on a website so we can look at it?

Might these be better as nature reserves? I know the park tagging is often
confused, but that's what I generally find is best for the larger ones.

Looking forward to seeing the data on a website or somewhere so we can offer
a more informed opinion.

Subject: [Imports-us] Maryland Department of Natural Resources State Park
Import

Greetings,

I have noticed that my state's open space areas are often bare in
OpenStreetMap. I have decided it would be to everyone's benefit if I were to
import the state park boundaries from the state park agency, Maryland
Department of Natural Resources.

Professionally, I am a GIS Specialist, so I reached out to my GIS colleague,
Dave Foreman at MD DNR (http://dnrweb.dnr.state.md.us/gis/data/help.asp)
about bringing the data into OpenStreetMap. He was very enthusiastic, and
said that all the data is in the Public Domain.

Given that, I decided to try bringing in some data. It looks great. But to
continue I need to bring this up to the group here.

I have made a wiki page about the import process:
http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Maryland_State_Parks

The basic technical process is simple. I am merging various parts of the
same park that are split by gov't boundaries, but otherwise contiguous. The
most rewarding part about this import so far is that other local editors
have surveyed lots of local trails, shelters, and other amenities, but have
not ventured to add the boundaries because so much of the area is wooded.
With these boundaries, park users can more easily know if they are in the
park, or on private property.

Questions?

/ Starting this process at the spring #editathon at MapBox HQ in DC.
