Status update: A draft of a letter to USPS now sits with the US OSM committee. If approved it will be mailed with a real 44 cent stamp. This will at least kick off the process, no telling where it will lead.

Prepare point files for JOSM, and have a hand mapper use the TODO plugin to tweak each box's coordinates to match the locally mapped geometry. But after that future updates can work via conflation. Deletions are the most important type of update: it remains to be seen how good the USPS data will prove out here. What's the lag between discontinued collection, and the database reflecting that? Does the data ever miss a box that's actually active?
