Official name is meant for NPS to use when tagging the 'bonafide' actual name of the feature, the OSM community indicated they want the ability to tag 'local' or 'aka', as NPS official names are rarely seen on (rare) signs;
Another misspelling caught! Trails were uploaded by another OSMer in 2009-11. We've added tags to trails, and plan on simplifying them, but with few exceptions, have no plans to remove other user-added tags such as trail visibility: we in fact hope that the trails layer can be contributed to by the community with things such as difficulty rating, significant viewpoints, etc... Pullouts with '@' in the name are, 'officially', called just that! Due to lack of imagination, some pullouts got named for what milepost they occur at, e.g. Mile Post 4.5. In these cases, the 'official name' may use '@' or 'at'; -----Original Message----- From: Will Skora [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Monday, September 02, 2013 3:15 PM To: [email protected] Subject: Re: [Talk-us-nps] Talk-us-nps Digest, Vol 3, Issue 10 Tom, Great work overall. I reviewed the file and just had a couple questions. For anyone else interested in viewing it, if you go to JOSM's filter, enter in: -source=NPS this will hide all ways and objects that do not have source=NPS and helps you see what's proposed to be added and edited by NPS. I do not know what is standard in this case, but is it necessary to have both official_name and name in a tag when they are the same values ? Perhaps you meant Campground instead of Campround for this way and a few others near it ? http://www.openstreetmap.org/browse/way/19431827 trail_visibility= was used on just 2 ways. Was this intentional ? Some of the Pullout parking ways' names use '@' while others use 'at' : For example: Nfg Pullout Parking At Mp 12.72 and others are Cosby Pullout Parking @ Mp 0.984 . Perhaps use one or the other for consistency ? Great work to Tom and everyone else at NPS.
