Hi again,
Rather than asking the federal (and all levels) governments for exclusive use of taxpayer funded geo-data, to just OpenStreetMap.org You might have bete luck in simply asking the governments to support the sme licence as Natural Resources Canada (unrestricted use) or USGS - public domain, or Austrailia CCBY. This would allow for the greater geospatial community, and for profit and non-profit organizations (everyone) to make full use of the geo data. Its unfortunatle that OpenStreetMap has the restrictions (share-alike clause), so asking when asking government, it's a clear 1-way 'direct concent' as the standard licence of all geo-data already has (ie. unauthorised use, unless direct concent given). and as i mentioned before, being an OpenStreetMap foundation board member, would allow you to have a direct say in the overall vision of the Project. cheers, sam On 11/19/10, Tom Blackmore <[email protected]> wrote: > Hi All, > > Next year I'm hoping to go from OSM user and contributer to OSM > visionary.
