If someone wants to clean up http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Catalogue and create templates and tables that automatically update it and document it and convert the existing data I would welcome it. It might be worth looking at how the tables for mobile software are generated from the individual software's pages. > 3) I understand the duty to be able to revert if things go wrong. > At > > https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Revert > > there probably should be discussion of the issue with large changesets > From JOSM not being handled by the JOSM reverter. The revert documentation needs rewriting, much of it is from 2009. I'm not a wiki or docs person so I wouldn't be the one to improve it, but it does need to be someone with technical knowledge. > 4) The section about using JOSM for uploads at: > > https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Import/Software > > does not caution about the problem with revert plugin and the >10K > changeset. > > So I wonder if it's better to use an upload script that handles errors > better, after doing the quality control in JOSM. Or maybe it isn't? It is possible to edit in JOSM then upload with command line scripts. I would not want to attempt it without understanding all the technical details of http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/API_0.6#Changesets_2, the process is rather complicated and involves very low-level scripts. We could use better documentation about the uploading process too. There is no problem with the revert plugin and large changesets, it's the API changeset /download call which times out. > 6) The dev server page is a bit confusing: > > https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Using_the_dev_server > > That seems to be about getting shell accounts, and indicates approval is > needed (makes sense), but it doesn't explain the plan for user > accounts on the dev instance. That page about the dev server, not the dev APIs. It'd be wrong to add dev API information there. The only page with information on the dev APIs afaik is http://apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/. I imagine there should be a wiki page with more information. The dev APIs are not reset to data from the live DB. _______________________________________________ Imports mailing list [email protected] http://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/imports
