Is OSM interested in public-domain geological maps? There are currently
masses of old maps being lost for good, and new maps seriously delayed in
publication (years). If there was a good way to put them up on OSM, it
might become the preferred publishing platform for such things (most new
maps are made by academics or government scientists who can copyleft or
place things in the public domain, and are willing to put a bit of work
into getting them in the right format; most old maps are in the hands of
librarians who want them saved).

I understand that OSM's lack of layers may make this a data richness
problem. Any suggestions for ways to work around this?
