Hi everyone,

I would like to have your opinion and advice on an import I'm planning as part of a company project.

It concerns population and postal codes of French cities and departments.
The import aims at updating population of departments and cities, which is currently based on the 2013 INSEE data (French public statistics agency) while 2016 data are available. It would also add missing postal codes, using data provided by the national postal service (La Poste).

All input data are based on governments entities and under ODbL compatible licenses. We already wrote some simple scripts to get the required data. These are available in our public repository: https://bitbucket.org/high-testing/osm-data-import/src/master/ .

This would be my first contribution to OSM, so any comment and advice are welcome. I am not too sure what is the preferable way for this kind of import: using the API seemed the easiest, but I understand from reading the wiki that this is not often recommended.

Thank you all and have a good day!
