We've started MapRoulette challenges for some of the smaller business categories to take advantage of free time during this holiday weekend. (Happy Thanksgiving!)

For now, we've deferred a few of the largest business categories, just in case we need to tweak the workflow based on feedback from participants. Please continue to send along any questions or concerns you might have.

Hi,

Code for San José volunteers are organizing an import of over 14,000 local business facilities throughout Santa Clara County, California.

Under the current COVID-19 public health order, every business owner is required to file a social distancing protocol (SDP) with the county's public health department, which maintains a public listing of SDPs. We crawled the listing and geocoded each business's address using a county address database. As works of California county government agencies, both the SDP listing and address database are in the public domain by law.

We plan to carefully map the geocoded business data using MapRoulette. Each POI will receive individual attention to refine the location and tags. We'll periodically update the MapRoulette project to incorporate newly filed SDPs and continue to maintain local POI coverage beyond the pandemic. For more details, please see our full proposal:

We'd appreciate any feedback about this proposal on this mailing list, on the wiki talk page, or in the #local-ca-sfbay channel of OSMUS Slack.

Thank you,
Minh Nguyen, on behalf of Code for San José
